Skipping Christmas Eve

Traditionally, I would spend my Christmas Eve back home with my family listening to Christmas music, Bachata and refilling my plate for the fifth time. The kitchen tables filled with empty cuoquito and Corona bottles. Your family around the table chit chatting. As many know, the Hispanic tradition is to celebrate Christmas the 24th with a party consisting of family, friends and neighbors. The 25th we're either hungover, opening morning presents and sleeping the rest of the day. Again, it doesn't pertain to ALL families but a lot.
Anyways, this Christmas Eve it's a little different. I decided to skip Christmas due to many factors. My family is living overseas and my boyfriend and I decided to save money this year. We are hoping not many people give us presents so we do not feel the pressure of giving back haha. It's not personal. We're simply skipping Christmas.Today, we woke up and felt a sense of relief that we were both okay with staying home. We ate breakfast, showered, caught up on an episode of Friends and my boyfriend played Grand Theft Auto for about five hours. We ordered a BBQ chicken with pork fried rice and a side of french fries at night. Very healthy right? Chinese Restaurants are opened almost everyday of the year except the Chinese New Year. So it's pretty convenient.
We're an exciting pair of twenty-something year olds. Luckily, we're not the only ones. Don't feel bad if you decided to stay home. Plenty of other people do it as well. If you're not in the mood to be around other people on the holiday you don't have to. Take a holiday off to recollect your thoughts and emotions. Put a nice Christmas movie on Netflix, pop open a bottle of wine or juice and chill in your PJs all day. It's okay!
